Youth Counselling in Delta and Surrey, BC
Youth Counselling
Adolescence can be a challenging time. Young people are navigating changes in their emotions, relationships, school, identity, and growing independence while trying to figure out who they are and where they fit in.
With nearly 10 years of experience supporting adolescents in mental health care, I provide a safe, supportive and non-judgmental space where youth can talk openly about what they are experiencing.
Counselling can help young people develop a better understanding of themselves, build coping skills, strengthen relationships, and feel more confident navigating the challenges they face.
Support for Teens and Adolescents
Every young person is different, and counselling is tailored to their individual needs, personality and circumstances. Some youth may know exactly what they want help with, while others may have difficulty putting their feelings into words.
Youth counselling can provide support with a wide range of concerns, including:
-
Anxiety, worry and overwhelming emotions
-
Mood and emotional challenges
-
ADHD and difficulties with focus, organization or emotional regulation
-
Stress and coping
-
Trauma and difficult life experiences
-
Bullying and social challenges
-
Friendships and relationships
-
School-related concerns, including school refusal
-
Sexual orientation and identity
-
Gender identity and self-understanding
-
Substance use
-
Crisis and emotional support
-
Career planning and future goals
-
Building confidence, resilience and coping skills
The focus is not simply on what is going wrong. Counselling can also help youth recognize their strengths, develop practical strategies, and build the skills they need to navigate challenges and move forward.
A Safe Space to Talk
For many young people, talking with a counsellor can feel different from talking with a parent, teacher or friend. Having a neutral person who will listen without judgment can make it easier to explore difficult thoughts and feelings.
I work collaboratively with youth to help them feel heard, respected and involved in their counselling experience. We can work together to identify what is getting in the way and develop strategies that feel realistic and meaningful to them.
Working With Parents and Caregivers
Supporting a young person often means supporting the people around them too.
When appropriate, parents and caregivers may be involved in the counselling process. This can include discussing ways to communicate more effectively, understand what a young person may be experiencing, and provide support at home while respecting the youth's need for privacy and independence.
The level of parent involvement will depend on the young person's age, circumstances and counselling needs. This can be further discussed in an initial session.
